Abstract:
When Einstein’s prediction for the correct bending of starlight grazing the Sun was verified, it captured the imagination of the world, and Einstein became an instant celebrity. However, his prediction could have been made using only classical non-relativistic gravitational reasoning explained here. While an argument can be made that photons should not respond to gravity because they presumably have zero rest mass, this same analysis can be adapted for a neutrino beam. This would show that space distortion caused by a massive body is not necessary to explain the bending of a neutrino beam, and consequently starlight.
