This paper was written as a response to the assertion that π = 4 in kinematical situations. The assertion was first put forward by Miles Mathis and then “proved” by an experiment conducted by Steve Oostdijk . The explanation proffered (cycloids) by both Miles and Steve did not make sense to the author of this paper. The paper explains why the value of 4 must be used for π to derive the orbital period but also affirms that π = 3.14 even in kinematical situations.
