Planck, Lorentz, Stokes, aether
There is here exhibited a smattering of understanding that does not extend deeper than the most superficial level of comprehension, and that gleaned from what must have been but a rudimentary treatment of the subject of potential theory presented to him sometime during his academic training and then not rightly understood at the time. That Lorentz would have the lack of humility to present a lecture such as this one before an assemblage of presumed senior professionals is amazing; more amazing still is that he could get away with it. Surely the audience was not possessed of the same unawareness! Why was he not called on it?
