We previously could not explain the fine structure constant in the spectra of atoms. We now see that this fine structure is provoked by the ratio of the charge radius to the energy radius which acts in proportion to the concentration of energy being diverted at any instant of time. Energy piles up in proportion to that diverted and the increments of piled up energy are released with the last increment being an optional addition which establishes the fine structure for each line in the spectrum when many atoms release energy.
